| 内容記述 | [Abstract] Polysemy in English sentences that is not based on structural differences at the S-structure level can be provided with a principled explanation through the previously proposed Quantifier Raising Principle (QR) if the sentence in question contains two or more quantifiers; however, other types of nonstructurally produced polysemy cannot be satisfactorily explained by the same principle. In this paper, I will demonstrate without resorting to QR that polysemy resulting from differences in theta roles can be explained through the new Revised Bundling Theory proposed here. This is a revised version of the theory suggested in a previous paper of mine. The revision consists of the combination of the previous theory with the newly proposed Polysemy Derivation Theory, which also has the potential to explain structural polysemy under the same principle as non-structural polysemy. Therefore, this paper aims ultimately to explore the possibility of solving all the problems related to polysemy, whether the polysemy in question is produced structurally or non-structurally, through the same Revised Bundling Theory. | |||||||||
