| 内容記述 | [概要] 本稿では, 現代アメリカ劇作家サム・シェパードの『埋められた子供』と, デイビッド・ヘンリー・ホワンの『家族礼拝』に登場する男たちが, ガラスなどの表面に自身の祖先の姿を幻視することの意味を, 彼らがアイデンティティに不安を感じており, 自身のルーツをたどろうとしている証だととらえ, 考察する。また, これら二つの劇の共通性や, 白人とアジア系という出自の違う二人の作家間の影響関係についても考える。[Abstract] The purpose of this paper is to examine the male characters in Sam Shepard's Buried Child and David Henry Hwang's Family Devotions. Since they have some anxiety about their own identities, they are haunted by the illusions of their own ancestors which are shown on the surface of the glass. They try to trace their own roots in order to relieve their anxieties. We see a similarity between these two plays and examine whether Shepard, a great white hope, had an influence on Hwang, an Asian American. | |||||||||
