内容記述 | This paper is the continuation by Lee (2021), and is a Korean-Japanese contrastive linguistic analysis focusing on the disappearance of so called ‘yakuwarigo’ (role language) in subtitle translations. The element lost in the translation subtitles is information that cannot be conveyed when studying foreign language through the use of subtitles, or when simply enjoying a cinematic production. This paper uses as its materials for comparative analysis the ‘role language’ that appear in the Japanese film Let Me Eat Your Pancreas and the Korean subtitles that correspond to them. Firstly, it surveys the definition and function of ‘role language’ that was previously revealed in earlier research. Then, it analyzed the differences between Korean and Japanese in sentence final expressions and personal pronouns and honorific use which are indicators of ‘role language’. According to the results of the analysis, the sentence final expressions and first-person pronouns of the ‘role language’ elements were hardly reflected in subtitles due to the characteristics of both languages. On the other hand, it became clear that cultural differences between Japan and Korea were expressed in the use of honorifics. | |||||
