| 内容記述 | [Abstract] In this digital era, the way we get the news is under tremendous change and, accordingly, so is the news we get.Previous studies have revealed that people are becoming less informed of important news we should know as a citizen, which seems a contradictory statement when we see the current immense flow of digitalized information on the Internet. However, according to the studies such as Tewksbery and Althaus (2000) and Pariser (2011), Democracy crisis will be real following the logic such that: (1) once online sources are replacing the conventional news medium, newspaper, (2) new news values, such as newness of the information and “attractiveness” to people, come into play and thus unimportant news, rather than important one, can get the considerable attention of the audience, and (3) the important news that people need to know to understand the whole world and the whole society, and to maintain the democratic principles, is not diffused widely enough. This article reports the results of an online survey on 40 second-year students in this faculty (Faculty of Applied Sociology, Kindai University), which questioned the news media they usually use and the news they know, the one they want to know and the one they think they should know. The logic shown in (1)～(3) seems to be applied to this group of students. That is, many students use online sources to get the news, the unimportant news that they know well fit the online news value and many students do not know important news. | |||||||||
