内容記述タイプ Abstract
内容記述 [Abstract] This article focuses on the issues of migrant workers arriving in Thailand due to aging populations, poverty reduction and inequality in the region over recent decades. As economic conditions have “miraculously” boomed during this time with many countries developing rapidly, social security schemes in the region have also gradually improved with the added help of international cooperation. However, increasing numbers of migrant workers, especially unskilled laborers from Cambodia, Laos and Myanmar, have crossed the border into Thailand without a work permit to seek a better life during this period of prosperity. The paper particularly highlights the transitions of migration policy, profile and practice in Thailand and sets forth an assessment on their current status of legality, working conditions, social services and other human rights protection issues. It concludes that long term migrant policy based on their socio-cultural context should be formulated with the cooperation of neighboring countries, while further legal assistance and services need to be provided by both the public and private sectors, especially for unskilled laborers and their children from Myanmar.
