| 内容記述 | 〈Abstract〉This summer marks the 100th Koshien Tournament, the annual national high school baseball championship tournament in Japan. When it started in 1915 (Taisho 4 in Japanese Imperial years), 73 qualifying teams from Japanese secondary schools participated. Nowadays, 3,800 of Japan’s 4,700 high schools belong to the Japan High School Baseball Federation (a rate of 80%). Of the 1.6 million high school male students in Japan, over 10% (160,000 boys) play on baseball teams. The number of spectators to the Koshien Tournament has exceeded 800,000 people for the past 10 years. Broadcast nationwide on television, this is a wonder summer festival which fosters a sense of pride for their local teams for many Japanese. This article looks back on the 100-year history of the summer baseball championship event in Japan. | |||||||||||||||||
