| 内容記述 | [概要] 19世紀初頭のイギリスにおいて古典派経済学の大衆化に貢献した人物として, 女性著述家であるジェイン・ハルディマンド・マーセットとその著書の一つ『経済学対話』を取り上げる。女子高等教育の制度が整っていなかった当時において, この著書は特に女性読者にとって経済学を学習する上で大きな役割を果たした。本論では, その貢献を, マーセットのジェンダー意識や文学テクストへの言及に顕著な作品内の様々なレトリックに注目し, それらを精読・分析しながら, 当時の女性読者を「感傷的」文学の世界から, いかにして経済学といういわゆる「科学的」学問の世界に導くことに成功したかを考察する。 [Abstract] This paper is on a woman writer in the early nineteenth century, Jane Haldimand Marcet, and her Conversations on Political Economy (1816), the first textbook she wrote on political economy. The book contributed to popularizing political economy especially among women readers, who were then deprived of opportunities to learn such a "masculine" subject. In the present discussion we will see how this book succeeds in appealing to such female learners by examining Marcet's rhetoric revealed in her treatment of gender, as well as in her effective use of, and reference to some literary texts in the work, which eventually lead the reader to the academic world of political economy. | |||||||||
