Two-dimensional(2D) iamages taken by an infrared(IR) sensitive camera give information of the coordinate position and the temperature of cloud. Some gradient operators are applied to the discrete level of the image so that 2D image functions as two or more variables. To calculate the gradient magnitude, the integral effect of the infrared radiative energy from atmosphere is taken account. This new algorithm leads to calculate the edge of the cloud efficiently even in the case of a thin cloud.
