[Abstract] Chlamydiae are Gram-negative and obligate intracellular parasitic bacteria responsible for a wide range of diseasescausing severe clinical and public health problems. Chlamydia pneumoniae is known as a leading cause of respiratory tract infections and its persistent infection has been shown to relate to atherosclerosis in the last two decades. Chlamydia trachomatis is the most common sexually transmitted bacterial pathogen worldwide, and its chronic infection increased risk of ectopic pregnancy, chronic pelvic pain and infertility. Chlamydial ways of killing host cells tenderly must be attributed to molecular mechanisms, by which Chlamydia modifies intracellular environments to scrape off nutrients but maintain the integrity of the host cells. One of the most focused topics is the prevention of the host cells from undergoing apoptosis induced by intracellular stress for its long-term multiplication or persistence.
