This team teaching refers to a Japanese homeroom teacher and a native English teacher or a Japanese instructor of English sharing teaching duties in the same classroom. Until recently, language assistants from a variety of backgrounds have been involved in team teaching with homeroom teachers, who usually play the central roles in classes. In order for language assistants to effectively collaborate with homeroom teachers, the following questions may be worth considering: What do homeroom teachers require or expect from language assistants when they work together? Do homeroom teachers have different requests and expectations depending on whether their partner is a native speaker of English or a Japanese instructor? How are they different? In order to discover more information surrounding this method of teaching, a questionnaire was administered to a group of elementary school homeroom teachers.
