Percent of silicate accumulated cells of leaves per unit area was estimated by the histochemical method using molybdate and benzidine hydro chloride. The grade of invaded cells by the fungus and the number of fungal appresoria formation on the inner epidermal cells of leaf-sheath were determined by the leaf-sheath inoculation method developed by Dr. Takahashi. In the rice grown under the crop production paractice without fertilizers and chemicals for long period, percent of silicate accumulated cells was smaller at the early growing stage and larger at the late growing stage as compared with the rice grown under the practice with fertilizers and chemicals. Both the grade of invaded cells and the number of fungal appresoria formation was higher in the latter rice than those in the former rice.
