To identify how this environmental condition affects the spatial distribution of individuals, a series of tests was done in a tank, with a bottom covered with gravel on one half and with small stones on the other half. The number of prawns that settled on each side was counted by eye when each individual was introduced into the tank. The results suggested that the spatial distribution of M. nipponense in a given space was partly controlled by the bottom texture under the conditions used in this study, and distribution was also influenced by population, because of interactions among individuals.
