| 内容記述 | [Abstract] In these days of globalization and diversification, the number of foreign residents with different ethnicities, languages, and cultures, as well as children with foreign roots, has been increasing. Accordingly, "multiculturalism" has been called for for some time now even in Japan, often described as a "mono-ethnic" and "closed" country, and this is also true in the field of childcare and early childhood education. In light of the importance placed on the development of "human relationships" in early childhood as a preliminary stage to the development of "ikiru chikara (zest for living)" in elementary school and beyond, it would be meaningful to review the current situation in Japan surrounding the increasing number of "children with foreign roots," including related challenges and prospects. For this reason, this paper outlines the demographic dynamics related to "children with foreign roots" and ongoing trends in multiculturalism and multicultural childcare in Japan, and it also examines actual efforts by daycares and municipalities, mainly from the perspective of the development of "human relationships" from infancy onward in an individual. Future issues and prospects will also be discussed. | |||||||||
