[Abstract] The Amplatzer™ Duct Occluder (ADO) II closure device has become available for catheterization of patent ductus arteriosus (PDA) in recent years. It has enabled the quick and safe placement of thicker PDAs. We report the case of a 20-month-old girl treated with a PDA catheter using an ADO II closure device. The patient was a 20-month-old girl weighing 7.5 kg (-2.7SD) referred to our hospital for poor weight gain. She was diagnosed with PDA. Catheter examination at our hospital revealed a Qp/Qs 2.7, 4-mm diameter Krichenko type C ductus arteriosus. An ADO II with a waist and length of 6 mm and 4 mm, respectively, was selected and placed. The time required for catheterization was 43 minutes, and the irradiation time was 7.2 minutes. There was no residual short circuit, and the treatment was completed without any serious complications. ADO II has enabled treating Krichenko type C ductus arteriosus, which was not possible with conventional coil embolism. In this report, we present the characteristics of PDA in children and the selection of ADO II with a review of the literature. |
