内容記述 | [Abstract] This article aims to reflect on the issue of the possibility of “happy” suicide, being centered on the point of view of assisted voluntary death (AVD). The word “happy” suicide is taken here in a relative and subjective sense of the term, and signifies a voluntary and conscious death that people wish to have under self-determination, that is to say which could bring them an end of life in interior peace and with dignity, as much as possible. All involuntary suicides, whether under social pressure from those around them or due to a mental state linked to an illness, are not within the scope of our subject. Our discussion begins with the explanation of the case of an unlawful assisted suicide that happened in 2019 in Japan. The classification of the societal structure of our world that visualises how we are confined there and the discussion of the possibility of a more human and humanitarian death follows it. In conclusion, we stress that suicide is not necessarily incompatible with the usual way of thinking in everyday life today, because, although AVD does not make everyone happy unconditionally, it does bring a possibility to die “happy” with dignity. | |||||||||
