| 内容記述 | [要旨] 本論では，功利主義への批判的なリアクションに着目することによって，かえって功利主義のメリットや特徴を鮮明に浮かび上がらせることにしたい。第２節では，１８世紀末から１９世紀にかけて本格的に台頭することになった功利主義のルーツを探訪し，ベンサムをはじめとした功利主義者を自認する人々の基本的な主張を確認する。また，その批評者たちが功利主義をどのように受け止めたのかについて，「功利主義」や「功利主義的／功利主義者」といった言葉の用例に注目する。第３節では，２０世紀に功利主義の性質を批判的に点検することで，現代の多様な功利主義論の起点となったムーアの議論について概観する。 [Abstract] The common perception of the idea of utilitarianism has been shaped not only by the advocates who identify themselves as utilitarians but rather by their opponents or critical assessments of utilitarianism. Therefore, in this paper, we will clarify the merits and characteristics of utilitarianism through a critical reaction to utilitarianism. Section ２ explores the roots of utilitarianism, which emerged in earnest from the end of the 18th century to the 19th century, and confirms the basic claims of Bentham and others who identify themselves as utilitarians. We will also see examples of terms, such as “utilitarianism” and “utilitarian,” to elucidate how the critics perceived utilitarianism. In Section ３, we will review that Moore’s argument, which critically examined the nature of utilitarianism in the 20th century, became the starting point of various modern utilitarian theories. |
