The volume treats Hernán Cortés, one of the major Spanish conquistadors during the 16th century, along with his adventurous explorations in the Americas; however, it will be pointed out that it is doubtful whether Keats actually read a complete version of the volume.Another possible influence is Lucretius’s De Rerum Natura as a very similar framework can be found both in a dedicatory poem to the translation and the Chapman sonnet by John Keats.
