内容記述 | Rhetorical theory originated in the ancient Western world; however, rhetorical techniques are regularly found in public speeches made in modern Japan. When compared with the art of public speaking as applied in various situations in modern Japan, these classical rhetorical techniques do not differ significantly from the techniques used today, even though modern Japan is quite different from the civilization and age in which such rhetorical theories were first used. This paper provides an analysis of a political speech from Japan, which seems to include many rhetorical techniques. Thus, this article aims to reveal how an argument can become convincing through the use of rhetorical techniques, how the use of rhetorical techniques in arguments produces the speaker’s intended results, and how effective the use of rhetorical techniques can be when giving speeches. | |||||||||
