Drawing upon the proposal by Margerie (2010) that the grammaticalization of the construction gave rise to the appearance of the indefinite article for the N, the present article investigates the frequencies of quotations including this construction cited in the OED to examine if diachronic advancements of grammaticalization of the construction parallel the appearance of the indefinite article for the N. The collected data seems to support the projected correlation, but also seems to pose further diachronic questions.
