| 内容記述 | [Abstract] “Meiji Restoration,” “Taisho Democracy,” and “Showa Genroku”. The names of the three Japanese imperial eras have their own phrases to reflect their times and social conditions. What words can properly describe the Heisei era? The Heisei era ended on May 1, 2019 when the Emperor Akihito abdicated and the Crown Prince acceded as the new emperor. It was the first abdication by an emperor under the current constitutional government. The timing of the abdication was announced in advance because a new one-time abdication law was enacted, enabling Japanese newspapers to publish feature articles to review the Heisei era before its end. Asahi, Yomiuri, and Mainichi newspapers chronicled the Heisei era by running large-scale projects with feature articles on three themes: politics, economy and disasters. This report analyzes the projects and opinion polls by the three newspapers and shows how they reviewed the Heisei era. It also aims to state how the content of the projects this year was different from 1989 when the Heisei era started after the death of the Emperor Hirohito and to mention perspectives which none of the three newspapers had in their projects. | |||||||||
