| 内容記述 | This study aimed to indirectly assess the extent to which contemporary Japanese people are interested in nature, by observing their staying behavior around sacred trees (shinboku) at Shinto shrines. Observations were conducted at seven shrines in Osaka Prefecture, where the presence and duration of stays at sacred trees, main halls, and auxiliary shrines were recorded and compared. The results showed that approximately 30% of visitors stopped at the sacred trees, and their average dwell time was comparable to that at the main halls, but significantly longer than at the auxiliary shrines. Shrines with more visually prominent sacred trees exhibited higher rates of visitor present. As symbolic natural elements imbued with religious and touristic significance, sacred trees may serve as effective indicators of unconscious or habitual interest in nature. However, the proportion of visitors who stayed with them was limited, suggesting that spontaneous interest in more ordinary elements of nature may be even lower. | |||||||||||||
