内容記述 This study is on how dietary salt ingestion affected blood pressures and stroke lesion rates of rats taken from colonies of very severely hypertensive M-SHRSP, normotensive WKY, and three strains of M-SHRSP and WKY crossbred offspring evidencing intermediate levels of hypertension, i.e., WT-T F4 (severe), WT-T F1 (moderate), and W-WT F1 (mild). All of the strains were divided into control and experimental groups, and the latter were given 1% NaCl in drinking water. Blood pressures for the experimental, dietary salt groups were higher than those for the controls. Also, the more severe the hypertension the more quickly and rapidly were these increases observed. NaCl administration, however, appeared to have only a limited effect upon the blood pressures of mildly hypertensive and normotensive rats. Pathological changes such as cerebral hemorrhages, resulting from the ingestion of 1% NaCl, were more commonly observed among M-SHRSP and WT-T F4 while cerebral softenings were more often seen among WT-T F1 compared to those in the respective control. No cerebral lesions were observed in both the experimental and control group W-WT F1 or WKY. Administration of 1% NaCl did significantly shorten the life spans of all the experimental groups. These results indicate that the more severe the level of hypertension, the more potent are the hypertension-aggravating effects of dietary salt.
