内容記述 We examined the effect of various collagen substrates and various growth factors on the proliferation of meningeal sarcoma (MS), transplanted to mice. The proliferation of cells was enhanced on plastic dishes coated with types I, III, and IV collagens, but not with type II collagen. The proliferation of cells in the collagen gel was higher than that on the collagen coated dishes, and was also enhanced by the addition of insulin, epidermal growth factor (EGF) and condition medium obtained from culture of 3T3 fibroblasts (CM(3T3)), but not by the addition of fibroblast growth factor (FGF) and platelet-derived growth factor (PDGF). The MS cell survived in transplanted mice, but the passage of MS cells was impossible on monolayer culture. However, in collagen gel culture, MS cells were subcultured for more than 35 generations. The influence of collagens and growth factors on the proliferation of MS cells presented specific characteristics that indicated that some three dimensional space or three dimensional intercellular adhesion may be essential to the survival and differentiation of MS cells, and suggested that collagen gel culture is a useful method for survival and passage of transplanted tumors (MS cells).
