This report describes a case of a rare cystic brain anomaly and acrania caused by amniotic band syndrome. An autopsy was performed on a stillborn female weighing 690 g at 24 weeks gestation. Anencephalia was suspected based upon a B-scope examination and the dead fetus was delivered in the transverse lie, first single breech presentation. The face was characteristic of anencephalia. A large cyst-like protrusion containing cerebral tissue was present at the acrania. This protrusion was fused with the placenta via the amnion. |
