内容記述 We report a case of cerebral cysticercosis. The patient was a 26-year-old female third generation Japanese who lived in Brazil but was visiting Japan. She experienced single sudden general convulsion and a cerebral cysticercosis was suspected by brain CT. CT showed high density spots in the frontal lobe and a low density area with ring like enhancement in the right parietal lobe. The parasite in the parietal lobe was successfully removed. Histologically, the parasite had a spiral folded body and a scolex which had suckers and rostellum with hooklets characteristic of Cysticercus cellulosae hominis. The parasite was encapsulated by granulation tissue with marked inflammatory cell infiltration. More T lymphocytes were detected than B lymphocytes in the granulation tissue. GFAP positive astrocytes and GFAP negative fibrillary astrocytes were seen in the brain tissue around the granulation tissue. Degenerated nerve cells were sporadically disclosed. Axon and myelin sheath did not show particular change. Although cerebral cysticercosis is a rare parasitic disease in Japan, it should be considered in any patient from an endemic area who displays neurological symptoms.
