内容記述 The eye-stalk withdrawal reflex in the crayfish (Procambarus clarkii) is related to activities of the oculomotor as well as those of the giant cluster of the motoneurons. The behavior pattern of the eye-stalk withdrawal reflex can be divided into phasic and tonic responses to either mechanical stimulation of the cephalothorax or electrical stimulation of the tegumental nerve. Modification in eye-stalk withdrawal during phasic and tonic responses was studied electrophysiologically and by intracellular staining. On increase of the mechanical stimuli to the carapace, the duration of withdrawal was prolonged over several seconds, but reduced to less than 1 sec after sectioning the oculomotor fiber. The phasic and tonic responses during eye-stalk movement corresponded to the activity of the giant motoneuron cluster and the oculomotor neuron, respectively. A single activation of the giant motoneuron cluster developed action potentials and evoked eye-stalk movement. With a train of electrical stimulation to the afferent neuron, the oculomotor neuron evoked a burst of impulses. Depolarization occurred at the same time in the local interneuron. The membrane potential of the local interneuron demonstrated an average of approximately-30 mV. A change in this membrane potential was generated by applying a depolarizing current to a local interneuron, which caused an increase in spike frequency in the oculomotor neuron. The local interneuron did not generate spontaneous spikes even after depolarizing current injection. The dendritic trees and the axons of local interneuron were distributed in the deutocerebrum. The dendritic arborization of the non-spiking local interneuron was distributed to both the tegumentary and paraolfactory neuropils, which the soma was located in the ventral tritocerebrum. It was suggested that modulation of the duration of the withdrawal reflex depended on the level of the membrane potential in the non-spiking local interneuron within the deutocerebrum.
