内容記述 The activities of the oculomotor neurons, local and descending interneurons, were evoked by photic stimulation to the eye in crayfish (Procambarus clarkii). Studies with intracellular staining were coupled with electrophysiological data. Photic stimulus with a halogen lamp was applied to the eye through an optic flber and, eye-stalk movement was measured with a strain gauge. Photic stimulation evoked the action potentials in oculomotor neuron (giant cluster type) with a delay of 95 msec after onset of illumination, and the eye-stalk withdrawal behavior was observed simultaneously. Another type of oculomotor neurons with spontaneous impulse activity was divided into two groups; those increasing and those decreasing impulse frequency in response to photic stimulation. The axonal morphology of the increasing type showed neurite extension to the optic nerves bilaterally across the midline, while the decreasing type showed axonal projections only to the contralateral optic nerve. The local interneurons with dendritic and axonal distribution from the deutocerebrum to the protocerebrum evoked depolarization in response to illumination. The somata of these neurons were localized in the deutocerebrum. The descending interneurons with dye-coupling to the photosensory neuron showed a small depolarization and subsequent hyperpolarization. With respect to the eye movement evoked by illumination, the oculomotor neurons of which the somata are localized in the tritocerebrum play an important role in oculomotor function.
