According to forensic data obtained from 30 years ago (1962 and 1963) in Osaka Prefecture, the average liver weights of male and female adults were 1,400 g and 1,200 g, respectively. It is assumed that the liver weight has increased as the build of Japanese has changed due to nutritional changes. To clarify secular changes in liver weight, we compared current (1992 and 1993) data with that obtained 30 (1962 and 1963), 20 (1972 and 1973), and 10 (1982 and 1983) years ago. Average liver weight has shown no marked secular change. However, the incidence of hypertrophy of the liver is higher at present than that 30 years ago. |
