| 内容記述 | The 7,580 patients treated in the intensive care unit (ICU) of Kinki University Hospital over 18 years were reviewed. The unit can be characterized as a surgical ICU because more than 90% of the admittees were postperative patients. The mean occupancy rate of beds was approximately 80%. The mean age of the patients has been increasing each year. In the present investigation, neonates and infants had a tendency to stay longer than the others. Neonates, infants, emergency admittees and patients staying for only one day or for longer than 29 days showed higher mortality. It seems necessary to assess the optimal bed occupancy rate. Future tasks of the unit are to lessen the length of stay and reduce mortality of neonates and infants as well as to improve the quality of care for the aged. | |||||||||||||||||||
