内容記述 Spontaneously hypertensive rats (SHR) are suitable model animals for hypertension, and hyperthermia. To clarify the cause of this hyperthermia, several experiments were performed in stroke-prone SHR (SHRSP) which have more hypertensive characteristics than SHR. SHRSP showed statistically higher values or higher tendencies in the rectal temperature from 2 to 9 months after birth. Although the food intake and the oxygen consumption were increased more in SHRSP, the boby weight was less than that in WKY. There was no significant difference in the spontaneous motor activity and the thyroid hormone function between the two rats. Sulpyrin and oxytetracycline treatments decreased the body temperature in SHRSP to the same level as in WKY. These findings indicate that SHRSP (SHR) keep higher metabolic rates through the upper shift of the set point in the thermocenter of the hypothalamus, and therefore, body temperature is elevated more by an overproduction of heat in the mitochondria of peripheral tissues as in cold acclimation animals.
