| 内容記述 | The chronic hypoglycemic effects of two Thai medicinal plants, Momordica charantia (M.c.) and Phyllanthus urinaria (P.u.), were tested in streptozotocin-induced diabetic rats. Although both plant powders caused strong hypoglycemic effects in the diabetic rats, the rats administered a high dose of M.c. showed a significant decrease in body weight and a high mortality rate (37.5%) in four weeks. On the other hand, P.u. had a more preferable hypoglycemic effect in the diabetic rats. These findings indicate that M.c. should be used clinically with special care, because it may contain phlorizin-like toxic substance. | |||||||||
