内容記述 Background. Crohn's disease is a non-specific (idiopathic) granulomatous inflammation of the digestive tract which usually progresses locally. The purpose of the present study was to examine radiographic findings of the small intestine of patients with Crohn's disease, especially the progression of changes in the course of the disease, and to show the usefulness of a double-contrast study. Methods. The x-ray film and medical records of 215 consecutive patients who had undergone enteroclysis over a seven-year period (1988-1994) at Kinki University Hospital were reviewed, and patients with Crohn's disease were selected for the study. Eighteen patients with Crohn's disease were found. Six of them had been operated on for Crohn's disease before the enteroclysis and were omitted from the study. Results. Six of the 12 patients had undergone enteroclysis only once, and were showing advanced features of Crohn's disease. The other six patients had enteroclysis more than twice during a period ranging from two to 20 months. Radiographically, three patients' conditions remained unchanged or worsened, and the remaining three patients showed improvement in the course of the disease. Conclusions. Radiographic evaluation of Crohn's disease is of particular importance when its involvement is limited to the small intestine, as this part of the gastrointestinal tract is generally not accessible to endoscopic inspection. A double-contrast study with insufflated air, following the enteroclysis or routine follow-through, was instrumental in obtaining a more precise evaluation of the disease.
