| 内容記述 | As a basic study to utilize acrylic acid sodium salt polyvinyl alcohol copolymer, super absorbent polymer microsphere (SAP), as embolus in embolization therapy, histophathological changes in arterial wall were examined using rabbit renal artery after embolization. Compared with other embolic materials, SAP has many beneficial properties, i.e., intense swelling ability by water absorption, consistent spherical shape, selectable for size of target artery, easy to handle and others. Angiographically, blood flow was completely disturbed by SAP embolization and no reflow was recognized even after 4 weeks of embolization. Histopathologically, SAP were found in the same sized arteries which completely occluded them. Typical coagulation necrosis of renal tissue was found around the periphery of such arteries. Inflammatory changes were very mild and hemorrhage was not recognized. Arterial walls were composed of modified smooth muscle cells, being immunohistochemically positive for smooth muscle actin and also vimentin. In the ethanol group, however, marked medial necrosis of the renal artery was evident and severe inflammatory changes were found in parenchyma around affected renal arteries. These results suggest that SAP is the most suitable material for embolization therapy. | |||||||
