内容記述タイプ Abstract
内容記述 The expression of P-glycoprotein (Pgp) was immunohistochemically examined using two monoclonal antibodies (JSB-1, C-219) in 27 patients with stages I and II non-recurrent breast cancer and in the primary and recurrent foci of 25 patients with stage I and II recurrent breast cancer. When Pgp was detected by these two antibodies, a strong positivity of Pgp expression was found in 30% of the patients with non-recurrent breast cencer, and in 64% in both the primary and recurrent foci of the 25 patients with recurrent cancer. The frequency of a strong positive Pgp expression in the primary foci was significantly higher in the patients with recurrent breast cancers. Pgp expression was strongly positive in 14% of the 14 patients with non-recurrent breast cancers measuring more than 2cm in size, while expression was strongly positive in 67% of the 18 patients with recurrent breast cancers measuring more than 2cm in size, showing a significant correlation. It is important to examine Pgp expression particularly in the primary foci of breast cancer tumors more than 2cm in size not only for prognosis but also for drug selection.
