Ipsilateral cremasteric reflex was evoked electrically by stimulations of the ventromedial aspect of the thigh and the ventral surface of the thigh about 5 cm above the knee. The latter area is innervated by the L4 and L5 spinal segments, which does not coincide with the area of the classical cremasteric reflex. The cremasteric electromyographic response evoked by stimulation of the ventromedial thigh aspect exhibited variations in both the latency and the burst response durations. Weaker stimuli close to the threshold evoked longer-latency, shorter burst responses. Even stronger stimuli with 1.5 times the intensity of the threshold could not drive only one fixed reflex pathway constantly. Occasionally latency change will reflex the fluctuation within a group of reflex cirnits. The involved steady synchronous electrical activities and the mechanism incorporated temporary excitability changes within the reflex center and the presence of a switching mechanism among many parallel reflex arcs determining the magnitude of recruitment in cremasteric reflex output. |
