To determine how microsatellite instability (MSI) is related to clinicopathologic characteristics of epithelial ovarian cancer, we investigated MSI frequency on mono-, di-, tri-, and tetranucleotide repeats in 52 sporadic ovarian cancers. Thirty (57.7%) cases exhibited MSI in at least one of those loci. In the endometrioid adenocarcinomas (EA), MSI was observed in loci containing mono- and dinucleotide repeats. However, in the serous adenocarcinomas (SA) and the clear-cell carcinoma (CC), MSI was mainly observed in the loci with tri- and tetranucleotide repeats. Our results suggest that MSI in mono- and dinucleotide repeats is associated with EA and tri- and tetranucleotide repeats is associated with SA and CC. |
