This report is an investigation of the life events of endogenous psychotic patients with mood disorders and schizophrenia. We investigated such the life event factors as health, employment, family, friends and economic status and the relationship of those life events to such patient profiles factors as sex, age, family member, alcohol use, cigarette consumption and education in a group of out patients with endogenous psychoses. A difference between the life events of patients with mood disorders and those of schizophrenia was observed. Those with mood disorders had high scores for the health and employment factors, and those factors were especially significant in the profiles of highly educated patients and patients aged 40 to 50. These results suggest that for patients with mood disorders precipitating factors may often be related to health or employment issue. While schizophrenics had high scores on health factors, precipitating factors in patient profiles were related to family member issues. |
