We investigated the relationship between blood pressure and the incidence of reinfarction in 1144 patients with prior myocardial infarction who had been treated at our clinic from January 1986 to October 1990. Of these patients, 116 had reinfarction. The incidence of reinfarction was the lowest in the patient group with a diastolic blood pressure of 81 mmHg to 100 mmHg. The patient group with a higher or lower blood pressure than this range showed a high incidence of reinfarction. There was no relationship between systolic blood pressure and the incidence of reinfarction. These data suggest that excessive reduction of diastolic blood pressure should be avoided following myocardial infarction. |
