A 41-year old man, who had been treated with hemodialysis for his chronic renal failure for the last few years before operation, underwent myocardial revascularization with double coronary artery bypasses for unstable angina. The extracorporeal ultrafiltration (ECUM) was instituted from the beginning of the operation and changed to the hemofiltration (HF) on the second postoperative day. The first postoperative hemodialysis was done on the third day after the operation. The combination of ECUM and HF was quite effective and safe in the management of fluid and electrolyte imbalance as well as azotemia particularly during the perioperative period. |
