Relaxant response to calcitonin gene-related peptide (CGRP) on renal arteries was markedly increased in SHRSP when compared to WKY. CGRP-induced relaxation was not affected by mechanical removal of the endothelium in either group. Although the enhanced CGRP-induced relaxation was found in SHR, the degree of relaxation was greater in SHRSP than in SHR. The relaxation induced by forskolin, dibutyryl cAMP, and 3-isobutyl-1-methylxanthine did not differ between WKY and SHRSP. The CGRP-induced relaxation in both WKY and SHRSP was not inhibited by pretreatment with glibenclamide. Thus, one possible explanation for the enhanced CGRP-induced relaxation found in the renal artery of SHRSP is the increased sensitivity of CGRP receptors. |
