Severe degenerative changes were found in endothelial cells as well as medial smooth muscle cells in hepatic and mesenteric arteries. Such changes were milder in the artery in the group administered cisplatin-lipiodol and vitamin E (vitamin E group) than in the group administered cisplatin-lipiodol (cisplatin group). Superoxide dismutase, a superoxide anion scavenger, was higher in the vitamin E group than in the cisplatin group. Furthermore, Na/K-ATPase, a membrane-related enzyme, was also higher in the vitamin E group.
