内容記述 | The estimation of age at death is one of the most important issues in medicolegal identification. We investigated a method of estimating the age at death through image processing of soft X-ray pictures of thyroid cartilages from Japanese males. Findings in 501 individuals from twenties to eighties of age were used to derive age estimation equations. The soft tissue were completely removed prior to taking soft X-ray pictures. Prior to image processing, subjective assessment was made of the indices of gross morphological findings. The soft X-ray pictures showed ossification with age and two indices for image processing were introduced. The exponential function and logistic equation were applied to describe the age estimation equation. The age estimation equations showed a 70% or higher accuracy for age estimation ±5 years. The equations were applicable for ages ranging from the twenties to seventies and appropriate for age estimation in legal medicine. | |||||||||
