These cells were generally flat and adendritic. With the electron microscope, 66% of a total of 299 cells were identified as astrocytes on the basis of the presence of glial filaments. However, 21% were an intermediate type between astrocytes and oligodendrocytes, since they contained glial filaments and microtubules in equal amounts.
