内容記述 | This paper is a case study of the relationship between discount sales and food waste in the side dish section of a small food supermarket located in an urban area. We investigated the current method of managing merchandise, the time at which the discounting of merchandise reaching their expiration date begins, the number of merchandise discounted, the number of discounted merchandise that remain unsold, and daily sales. These were measured continuously over two consecutive day, the same day of the week each week, for 24 weeks, and this was analyzed. Some types of side dishes continued to be replenished based on the number of merchandise sold to avoid opportunity loss. Also, due to human resource constraints, the discount rate are relatively large and are given only once, thus avoiding waste losses. Regarding the days without bargain sales in this case study, the following was shown for the entire side dish section. (1) There is no correlation between the time when the discount starts and the number of unsold merchandise, but there is a negative correlation between the time when the discount starts and the number of discounted merchandise. (2) Although it could not be verified, if the number of discounted merchandise is below a certain value, the number of unsold merchandise will be 0, and if it exceeds this certain value, the number of unsold merchandise will increase. (3) There is a negative correlation between sales and the number of discounted merchandise. Therefore, if there is a sufficient demand for the number of discounted merchandise, it is preferable to manage the number of discounted merchandise rather than the discount start time. | |||||||||||||
