However,due to the Kumamoto earthquake,about 30% of the town house in Kumamoto was destroyed and disassembled. One of damping device type is a joint damper. However,it is difficult to judge to which joint of the frame the damper should be placed. In this paper,we propose a method to obtain the optimal placement of the damper using ESO method and Ground structure method then we will examine its effectiveness. Earthquake response analysis is performed on the model of Kyomachiya. The seismic waves used for analysis are the Kumamoto earthquake and El Centro.
