| 内容記述 | The purpose of this paper is to explore how “being” is shaken due to the intervention of technology in the fear of death in Don DeLillo’s White Noise (1985). As the original title of this work, “American Book of Death,” shows, the fear of death underlies this work. This paper examines how media control our perception, evoking a fear of death, leading to totalitarianism; how technological advances make our society better but eventually threatens our society; and how science applies to our desire for immortality and controls our body with a drug, which makes “being” inauthentic. 本稿の目的は、アメリカ現代作家ドン・デリーロの作品『ホワイト・ノイズ』(1985)において、死への恐怖にテクノロジー が介入することによって、我々の存在がいかに本来の姿から逸脱していくのかを検証することである。メディア情報が我々の 意識をコントロールし、死への恐怖を煽り、ひいてはそれが、全体主義につながる可能性を示唆する。次に、テクノロジーの 発展が、便利さと裏腹に社会不安をいかに招いているか、死への恐怖を克服するために手にした薬のためにいかに人間として の存在意義を失ってしまうのかを考察をする。 |
