| 内容記述 | [概要]ウィリアム・ギルピンは1768年に『版画論』を出版した後，1769年からイギリス各地への旅行に出発し，その記録は後に一連の紀行文として出版された。1786年に出版された『湖水地方紀行』は1772年に行われた湖水地方への旅行にもとづいた紀行文である。ギルピンが『版画論』の中で展開したピクチャレスク美学は人工的創作物である版画を題材としたものであったが，その理論を自然風景の鑑賞に当てはめるにあたり，ギルピンは“picturesque eye”という考え方と“imagination”を重視している。本論ではこれらの言葉に注目して，ギルピンによるピクチャレスク美学と風景描写の関係について考察する。 [Abstract] After publishing his An Essay upon Prints in 1768, William Gilpin began several tours around the British Island starting 1769. The records of his travels were published as a series later in his life. One of such writings, Tour to the Lakes published in 1786 was based on the record of his “picturesque tour” to the Lake District in 1772. While the subject of Gilpin’s theory of picturesque beauty in An Essay upon Prints was artificial productions created by the masters of prints, in Tour to the Lakes his aesthetic theory was applied to evaluate the beauty of natural landscapes. The ideas of “picturesque eye” and “imagination” play important roles in his discussions of landscape beauty. |
