A microprocessor sets the duty ratio of the switching transistors that control the inductor current. Corresponding to the duty ratios, stepwise voltages are generated, and they enable adiabatic charging and discharging operation. Current measurements showed that the energy dissipation is reduced to one-eighth that for a constant-voltage charging.
