However, there are various difficulties in direct formalization of the specification. One of the systems that avoid them is PROUST[2]. It examines the student's program and generate advices by preparing all program patterns written by students even if correct and wrong beforehand and matching it with them. But it is very difficult and time consuming to collect all patterns for every newly made program problem. Therefore it is necessary to adopt an intermediate method to specify the specification. Then we propose the Map of Cause and Effect as a specification method of programming problem. It combines the flow chart and the data flow diagram and has some devices to correspond to diversity of student's programs.
