It functions as an adjusting system to facilitate merchandise movements that rneet consurner demands. Western observers frequently referred to Japan's traditional distribution system as "mysterious complex. stubborn. low productivity and anachronistic". Often, however the Japanese distribution system continues to be perceived today as it was 1980s. The purpose of this article is to explain or bring out structural characteristics of Japanese retail system at present. using the Census of Commrnerce. | |||||||||
